The Worldwide House Church Difference

Always Relevant
  • The first teaching series is dedicated to those struggling with or new to Christianity, to help make sense of your important questions and respect your legitimate concerns.
  • You choose the topics and type of teacher that best meet your group’s current needs. ‘Cuz it’s hard for the same sermon to deeply engage hundreds of diverse life situations, right?
  • How you best express gratitude to God is chosen by you, as you select how to worship through nature, reflection, song, or art!
  • We’ve confirmed in multiple ways that institutions’ ministry stats (e.g. “conversions” and funds devoted to “missions”) get very exaggerated to solicit support. We want you to know your gifts are doing what we say they are. That’s why you can’t give to WHC, only directly to the causes relevant to your passions, via the charities most proven by third-party research to be effective!
Globally Diverse
    • We offer very diverse teachers and worship artists from all over the world on numerous topics you may have never heard addressed before, allowing perspectives from the whole Body of Christ to benefit you!
    • We showcase the most research-proven, best-of-the-best charity initiatives for a large variety of spiritual and humanitarian aid categories. You give to the world’s populations you’re most passionate about!
    • Our worldwide community can easily interact online through gatherings of remote individuals. Instantly recognizable racial or socioeconomic predominance at churches make many feel unwelcome. So WHC truly operates as – and benefits from – the global Church!
Personalizes Growth
  • House church allows you to more deeply learn about and empathize with people than typical Sunday mingling does. This makes it easier to offer and receive prayer, challenges, and encouragement specific to your present circumstances.
  • We offer diverse, specific, and in-depth teaching on controversial but crucial questions often avoided or oversimplified by church institutions.
  • Every house church member completes a brief web survey at the end of each meetup that they’ll be emailed during the next week. This reminds you of what you learned, what others shared, and goals you set when they’re most applicable in everyday life. The survey can be as detailed or general as you want, and it’s seen only by you, except for prayer requests you share that our Crew keeps confidential.
Organic & Interactive
  • You’re meeting with people you have natural relationships with all week long. No pressure to outdress, perform, or uncomfortably mingle, as many experience at churches.
  • You can pause for interactive discussion during the meetup. This allows you to read additional Scripture on the topic and explore related questions a clergy’s lone, brief perspective may not address.
  • It’s easier to invite others to house church! Especially for those who struggle with imposing crowded buildings, unfamiliar worship songs, Christian jargon, unexpectedly awkward sermons, or baggage from previous church institution experiences.
Multiplies Your Time
  • Meeting in houses instead of church buildings saves the average American churchgoer 28 minutes of travel time per gathering, with no parking lot waiting or frustration.
  • Many have devoted hours to sermons and services that didn’t apply to their current circumstances. Choosing your topic and worship helps church time become higher yield.
  • With no facility / renovation planning, minimal staffing needs, and minimal volunteer time required for meetups (no parking lot attendants, greeters, nursery workers, media team, etc.), millions of Christian manpower hours can be freed up to serve those in need outside church walls, as Jesus did.
Pick How to Worship
  • We offer numerous and diverse worship opportunities in addition to singing, including the much wider range of options the Bible teaches. This provides any type of person in any situation a way to most genuinely appreciate God.
  • Many feel forced to clap, shout, listen to a vocalist’s add-ons, keep repeating phrases, or dance during church worship, to create a more energetic or crowd-drawing vibe. Here, worship is never a production or performance coming at you; it’s whatever most naturally comes from you to God.
  • Our extensive worship song database prioritizes lyrics that avoid sweeping, impossible promises to God we quickly forget or don’t even realize we’re making. And you’ll never be led to sing about a life situation you’re not even in! Not being able to sing honestly is not really worship, right? That’s why we let you choose the methods and content that most accurately portray your gratitude to God.
Available & Flexible
  • Even when sick, homebound, or in different locations, you can enjoy a whole church experience with your people via Skype / Zoom / Meet / WeChat / etc., not just online sermons from a church institution.
  • There’s no waiting for the next new teaching or worship session to become available, unlike with brick-and-mortar or online church content.
  • Although not optimal, parts of gatherings can be accomplished individually if necessary, to be discussed as a group when possible.
  • You can have church anywhere internet is available, at whatever indoor or outdoor location is most welcomed by your group.
Multiplies Your Money
  • We have no construction / maintenance, mortgage interest, payroll, materials, or marketing costs for you to pay for, allowing 100% of what you give to go to the people most in need. In contrast, just 10% of the average church budget helps those in need, mostly spent on complex issues with expensive, unproven solutions. Only 5% goes to international aid, where it would do exponentially greater good.
  • Every dollar you give at WHC goes directly to our recommended charities. These have proven exceptional impact, transparency, and cost-effectiveness, by the quality research of numerous third-party charity evaluators.
The latest government and scientific research confirms that the same amount of money has been proven to save 2000 times more lives among the world’s poorest compared to the US population. Yet 94% of all US donations are spent domestically, and 97% of Christian donations are spent on Christians who are typically the richest. By diverting your church giving through WHC, your money can have literally thousands of times more impact, and we don’t get a penny of it! Because others need it more.
Biblically Modeled
  • The vast majority of the time, biblical church gatherings took place in homes. The New Testament never mentions or supports church buildings for Christians (especially expensive ones), and Jesus held all his gatherings in non-rented, non-owned, public, residential, or outdoor venues.

The need for a temple facility was made obsolete by Jesus, and there will be no temple in heaven (Revelation 21:22). Instead, God names Christians as his temples to house his Spirit in (1 Corinthians 3:16-17, 6:19-20, Ephesians 2:19-22). Ekklesia (Greek for “church”) simply means “assembly” or “gathering”, and Jesus promises he’s in the midst of even 2 or 3 who are gathered in his name (Matt. 18:20). House churches are the closest modern church model to the biblical precedent.

  • Controversial, institutionally risky portions of the Bible are often oversimplified or avoided by clergy, leaving congregations with little understanding of God’s insightful answers to the many important faith questions associated. Free from institutional pressures, we prioritize more in-depth teachings that can truly respect but make sense of complex issues in the Bible, the news, and your conversations.
  • Our teaching recommendations come from a diversity of people throughout the Body of Christ, posted primarily by how well they represent as much of God’s words about a topic as possible. As the ultimate goal of Christianity is to know God by marrying ourselves to him (heaven is a wedding after all! – Revelation 19:7-9, 21:2-4), his perspective and words must be preeminent.
Gloriously Green
  • Americans spend over $50 million on gas driving to church services on typical Sunday mornings. WHC avoids this huge environmental harm by requiring minimal car travel. And according to well-established research, devoting that same amount of money to WHC charities would save over 20,000 lives every Sunday instead.
  • We have no facility energy costs, unlike the average church, which consumes the same amount of energy as burning a ton of coal every week (8 tons a day for the largest churches!).
  • We don’t produce any of the trash, pollutants, or paper waste associated with church facility construction, operation, maintenance, and programs.
  • Our church model requires virtually no carbon footprint or environmental harm, unlike the large parking lot and building footprints of churches, which on average occupy 34,000 ft2 of green space where an average of 20-100 trees would otherwise be growing.
More Justice, More Aid, & Far More Lives Saved!
  • Our Crew are lifelong churchgoers, so it was difficult to learn via hundreds of hours of research that the American church institution is one of the least cost-effective ways to aid the world’s unreached and underserved. 97% of US Christian donations are spent on Christians who are typically the richest, leaving the most secular nations – who proportionately give far more to the world’s poorest – little reason to respect Christianity. WHC is designed to turn the tables and set an example for them to admire…the one Jesus set himself! That’s why 100% of your hard-earned donations through WHC goes directly to the most research-proven charities serving those in most spiritual and physical need.
  • You can finance a church’s budget for one year, or you can 1) prevent 124 people from dying of malaria, 2) provide a year’s worth of income for 367 women in Sub-Saharan Africa, or 3) sponsor (help provide healthcare/education/food/discipleship to) 614 children. You can build a $1 million dollar church renovation (not including interest or maintenance costs), or you can 1) prevent 443 people from dying of malaria, 2) provide a year’s worth of income for 1309 women in Sub-Saharan Africa, or 3) sponsor 2188 children. And every time you walk into a church facility, remember that just building an average one (not including interest or maintenance costs) means 1267 people die from malaria, 3740 women don’t receive income for a whole year, or 6250 children go without the healthcare/education/food/teaching about Jesus that sponsorship provides! Just because the money people gave them got spent on a building instead of the “least” served who Jesus prioritized (Matthew 25:31-46). And these tragic losses are much larger for bigger churches. Church institutions definitely do good things, but only a sliver of what they could!
  • Facilities and clergy offer some important benefits, but today’s technology obviates the need to keep utilizing them far out of proportion to need and at immense cost to the world’s poorest. In contrast, both our bodies and Christ’s Body are designed to devote our excess to wherever there is greatest need (Acts 2:44-47, 4:32-35). So we at WHC offer our community and our own resources, teachings, and time for free. Just as Paul did to his churches, and as Jesus does to his (1 Corinthians 9:7-18, Romans 3:21-24). That way you can make the biggest difference, for those who will benefit most, so that the world increasingly desires the Church that Jesus started!

Where you give to those who need it most - Never to us!
